China has a unique natural magnesite resources, especially in Liaoning Province, not only magnesite reserves, mining capacity is the first in the world, but also magnesia refractory production and export volume are the first in the world. Good fused magnesia producers rely on resource advantages. The main products of magnesia refractory raw materials produced by Chinese enterprises include light burned magnesia, sintered magnesia, fused magnesia and so on. In this paper, the author introduces and analyzes the development process, production status and existing problems of magnesia refractory materials and products.
Resources and exploitation of magnesia raw materials
Magnesium raw materials refer to Magnesium-bearing minerals which can be used to produce magnesia refractories, magnesia chemical materials, metal magnesium and other products. They are mainly divided into solid minerals such as magnesite, dolomite, brucite and liquid minerals such as seawater, salt lake brine and so on. Magnesite is one of the most important refractory materials in the world. It is mainly used for calcining lightly burned magnesia (CCM), sintered magnesia (DBM), fused magnesia (FM) and other refractories. It is the basic material for producing magnesia refractories.
China is one of the countries with the richest magnesite resources in the world, mainly distributed in Liaoning and Shandong provinces, concentrated in Liaoning Province. At present, the reserves of magnesite discovered in Liaoning are 34.13 billion tons, accounting for 85% of the whole country and 20% of the world. Liaoning magnesite reserves, mining capacity, as well as magnesia refractory production, export volume are ranked first in the world. At present, there are 12 mining areas in Liaoning Province which have been geologically prospected, and about 16 million tons of special, primary, secondary and tertiary ores with MgO content (> 44%) are mined annually, mainly for the production enterprises in the province. Liaoning magnesite belongs to crystalline minerals with large crystal size and difficult to sinter. The standard YB/T 5208-2004 made the standard of natural magnesite with MgO content of 33%~47%.
